ABOUT THE FILM

FIRST OF ALL:

This is an Independently Financed Film, and Locally Produced

I’m a nice guy who meant well but got caught up in the tangled mess that is Berkeley – and couldn’t stop filming and being bounced around the city until two years and $$ later.

So please enjoy the madness.. which is all I want

Power Trip is the story of a city that set out to be a leading force in the fight against global warming. In 2006 The City of Berkeley passed Measure G with an overwhelming 81% voter approval. This measure while void of specifics set a clear aggressive goal of an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050. “I believe this is a movement” says Mayor Tom Bates.

This film intended to follow Berkeley leadership from City Hall to the grass roots as they blaze a path to success, and set an example for the nation.

But, as the story unfolds, various outspoken characters come to the forefront bringing to light a plethora of issues and brewing movements with what is perceived to be the passion of the people in every instance. Seemingly unrelated battled grounds are laid out all over the city, and only over time are revealed to be an entangled web of activism and animosity, with deep back stories and recycled faces.

This film provides people with a unique and unfiltered perspective into one of the most politically and socially active cities in the nation. Demonstrating that in this city, perceived for pushing progress to the brink, implementing uniform change might be more difficult here than anywhere.

“Visionary work” -Berkeley Film Foundation

“Its like an irregular octopus, with extra legs” – 1st lt. Stephanie Ramos, U.S. Army

“I enjoyed the trailer immensely — if the final cut has the same energy and dynamism, it should be truly memorable.” – Jonathan King, Editor, the Berkeleyan
